He Tested Me With Prenup I Left Him With Regret Chapter 16

Grant’s outstretched hand stopped in midair.

“I can change, Maya. I really can.”

“You’ve said that before.”

After Celeste accused her of stealing cufflinks, he had said that next time, he would ask her first.

After she was cornered by everyone at a family gathering, he had promised he would never let her face them alone again.

But the next time, he had still doubted first, still waited for her to produce proof.

“What you changed were your tactics,” Maya said. “You never stopped to ask yourself why you didn’t trust me in the first place.”

Grant had gone pale. “I can clear your name publicly. I can make everyone understand they were wrong. I can even stay in Chicago and be with you while you finish school.”

“I don’t need that.”

“Then what do you want me to do?”

His voice suddenly rose, then dropped again in desperation. “Tell me. Whatever you say, I’ll do it.”

Maya looked at him steadily.

“I told you long ago that I hated those tests. I told you I would not accept Celeste interfering in our relationship. I told you I had my own career plans and that I was never after your money.”

She paused.

“But not once did you really hear me. When I needed you to listen, you were too busy judging me.”

Grant’s lips moved, but no sound came out.

“Now that I don’t want to talk anymore, you’re suddenly ready to listen.”
