My Racer Chose Her So I Canceled Our Wedding Chapter 04
The Last Straw
“Adrian, we’re done.”
The cheering in the room drowned out my words.
When the kiss finally ended, he turned to me as if nothing had happened.
“What did you say?”
Looking at him, I suddenly found the whole thing exhausting.
“Nothing. I said I’m tired. I’m going home.”
He didn’t think much of it.
“Right. You always go to bed early. Go ahead. We’ll stay a little longer.”
When I got home, I started packing.
Clothes. Shoes. Cosmetics. Everything that actually belonged to me went into my suitcase.
The matching mugs, slippers, toothbrush holders, and all the other couple things he had bought when we first got together stayed exactly where they were.
Most of them had been mine alone for a long time anyway.
Half an hour later, I was done.
I picked up my phone and saw a new post from his co-driver.
There were four photos of trophies, this year’s Rally Championship trophy and the three from previous years.
Every championship trophy he had ever won.
Her caption read:
Can’t drive a rally car? Doesn’t matter. He’ll win the trophies for me.
The comments were flooded with congratulations.
Everyone seemed convinced they were finally together.
I closed the post and opened the page for our wedding venue.
I had booked it a year ago.
I chose the place, but he had once stayed up night after night helping me finalize every detail.
Back then, he told me I was his princess, and a princess deserved a perfect wedding.
My cancellation request had finally reached the front of the queue.
I pressed Confirm Cancellation.
A second later, the front door slammed open.
He stormed inside with his co-driver beside him.
Before I could say a word, he slapped me across the face.
My head snapped to the side.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” he shouted. “Why would you report her for using a banned stimulant before the race?”
“Do you have any idea what an accusation like that could do to a rally co-driver’s career?”
She immediately burst into tears.
“Don’t blame her. This is my fault.”
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have become your co-driver. I shouldn’t have raced beside you. I shouldn’t have accepted the passenger-seat invitation.”
“Please, just stop reporting me. I can survive a suspension. I can survive people attacking me. But if this affects him too, I’ll never forgive myself.”
She started crying harder and stepped toward me, but Adrian immediately pulled her back, wrapping a protective arm around her shoulders.
“I didn’t report her,” I said.
“Stop lying. It’s already trending.”
I opened my phone.
The Rally Championship organizers had released a statement saying she would undergo another drug test.
Underneath it, strangers were already tearing me apart.
They called me jealous.
A woman trying to destroy the racing world’s favorite couple.
“Post a video. Tell everyone you made the accusation because you were jealous, then apologize to her and the public.”
I stared at him.
He wanted me to confess to something I hadn’t done.
“If you don’t,” he continued, “don’t blame me for forgetting the five years we’ve been together.”
Then he shoved me aside.
I stumbled backward, my elbow slamming into the edge of the table.
Pain shot through my arm.
Five years.
Apparently, that was all they were worth.
Before he could say anything else, her phone rang.
It was the Rally Championship testing team.
They wanted her to come in immediately for another sample.
She instinctively moved closer to him.
He reassured her that he would go with her.
Then his phone buzzed.
He glanced at the screen.
His entire body went still.
Your wedding venue reservation has been successfully canceled.
