My Broke Husband Bought His Mistress A Mansion Chapter 08
I put the divorce papers in front of Ethan again.
“Noah stays with me. Everything else goes through our lawyers.”
“If you won’t sign, I’ll file and let the court handle it.”
Ethan gave a bitter smile.
“So either way, you’re leaving me.”
I said nothing.
He took a breath.
“Claire, I was wrong.”
“I started pretending to be broke because I wanted to know if you loved me or my money. Then I let the lie go on until I didn’t know how to tell you the truth.”
“And then there was Vanessa.”
He looked at Noah and me. His voice cracked.
“I’ve ended things with her. Just give me one more chance.”
“Noah needs his family.”
“I know I don’t deserve it. But please.”
Noah lowered his head.
I shook mine.
“You lied to us for years, Ethan.”
“You watched Noah and me struggle when none of it was necessary.”
“Our son was scared to tell us he couldn’t breathe because he thought we couldn’t afford a doctor.”
I looked at him.
“Trust doesn’t come back just because you’re sorry.”
“We’re done.”
Ethan went quiet.
We’d been together since college.
After his parents died, Noah and I were the closest family he had.
He once told me we were his whole world.
Maybe losing us finally hurt.
After a long silence, he looked up.
“Then have your lawyer draw up the settlement.”
“I won’t fight you.”
“Whatever I can give you and Noah, you can have.”
Then he looked at us one last time and left.
For a moment, my eyes burned.
Noah handed me a tissue.
“Mom, are you crying?”
I looked away.
“No. Something got in my eye.”
After that, everything moved quickly.
Our attorneys handled the settlement and custody agreement.
I received primary physical custody of Noah, and Ethan stopped contesting the financial terms.
Weeks later, the judge signed the final divorce decree.
I posted one last video online to let everyone know it was over.
This time, all I had to say was thank you.
