You Shipped Me Off I Married Your Boss Chapter 17

He remembered her joy that day.

Clinging to him, chattering nonstop.

Showing off her blue ribbon. Her rented horse.

Babbling about how handsome the guest presenter was—but she only had eyes for him, she’d peeked just once.

Brian’s mouth tugged.

He and Skylar both loved riding.

Skylar’s rented horse was still stabled at the Crawford Equestrian Club.

Natalie pushed the door open.

“Brian.”

She wore a pearl-white satin gown.

A replica of the dress Mrs. Crawford had worn for her own engagement.

Mrs. Crawford had come from nothing.

Mr. Crawford had rescued her, and it had sparked a beautiful love story people still talked about.

Brian’s deepest pride was his parents’ devotion.

Maybe that’s why, when he saved Natalie, something different had stirred.

And now, standing before him, Natalie looked just like the woman in those old photographs. Soft. Elegant.

Brian’s heart softened again.

Maybe he’d never planned on actually going through with marrying Natalie.

But today, he would at least give her a perfect ceremony.

Brian stood and offered his hand.

Natalie smiled, gathered her skirt, and moved toward him.

“You weren’t coming down. I got worried.”

“Nothing. Let’s go.”

“And… Skylar? Everything handled?”

“Yeah.”

Brian’s gaze brushed the tanzanite brooch on his chest.

“Skylar’s spoiled. Nasty temper. You’re gentle. She stays in Chicago. She’s not coming back.”

A surge of triumph rushed through Natalie.

But her face stayed worried.

“Is that really okay? She’s used to getting her way. Won’t she feel wronged, all alone out there?”

Brian’s voice was flat.

“A little hardship will teach her some sense.”

Natalie said nothing more.

She took his arm, soft and obedient, and walked downstairs.

Six o’clock. Her engagement was starting.

After today, no more grueling shifts at the restaurant.

No more cramped, run-down apartments.

No more sharing a tiny room with roommates.

Her whole family would rise with her.

Brian was her golden ticket. The only chance she’d ever have to escape her class.

She would hold on to him.

Never let go.
