He Chose His Ex So I Chose My Empire Chapter 17

I cut him off calmly.

Before, I would have broken down, would have questioned and accused him endlessly if he’d so much as spoken an extra word to Serena.

But now, I didn’t have the strength to care what, exactly, was between them.

I shook off his hand, walked to the bar, poured myself a glass of ice water, and downed it in one go.

Liam came to stand beside me.

His shadow fell over me, blanketing me.

“Elara,” he asked tentatively, “are you angry?”

I met his eyes.

The same eyes that had once followed his every move were now perfectly calm.

“No.”

His pupils contracted, and his breathing grew heavy.

“I can explain.”

I didn’t respond.

He just stood there, as if he didn’t know what to say next.

“Liam, you don’t need to explain.”

I finally spoke.

“I only have one request. Sign the divorce papers.”

The words hit him like a physical blow.

“I won’t.”

His voice was hoarse, laced with a hint of a plea.

“Elara, didn’t you love me? Why… why would you give up on me so easily?”

That single question ignited all the anger I’d been suppressing.

I raised my hand and smashed the glass on the floor.

The sound was sharp and piercing.

“Easily?” I looked at him, my voice trembling. “Liam, what right do you have to ask me that?”
