My Family Regret When They Lose Me Chapter 12

There was silence on the other end for a few seconds.

Then my mother’s voice shot up.

“That’s impossible. How could Sofia do those things? She’s always been so kind, so innocent—”

My father sighed.

“Beatrice, I’m sorry. I was wrong about those things.”

“Could you… come home?”

I lowered my eyes to the half-built Lego castle on the coffee table.

Leo was lying on the rug, concentrating as he pressed a blue arch into place.

“I’m not coming back.”

“I’ve found a place here where I belong.”

“I’m doing well. I’m happy. I’m not coming back.”

I didn’t wait for them to say anything else. I hung up.

Then I crouched down and touched the back of Leo’s hand.

“Leo, want to go out to dinner with me tonight?”

He looked up at me, a trace of hesitation in his eyes.

I smiled.

“Julian’s asked me out a few times already. I can’t keep dodging him forever.”

“Will you come with me?”

Leo was quiet for a few seconds. Then he set down the block and took my hand.
