After Lefting Me On The Bridge He Lost His Mind Chapter 15
Truett fought to control his emotions, but a desperate edge had crept into his voice.
“I know I was wrong. I haven’t had a single good night’s sleep in three months. Every time I go home to that empty apartment, I feel like I’m losing my mind.”
“Come back, okay? I kept our date for next month. I’ve already ordered the wedding dress. Let’s just go back and get married…”
“You have a short memory.”
I cut him off softly.
“We already broke up. In the hospital. As for marriage—”
I glanced at Chloe, who was standing behind him, too afraid to make a sound.
“Your brilliant intern has probably caused you a lot of trouble these past three months, hasn’t she? Your department lost two major clients last month. I heard even headquarters knows about it.”
Truett’s face went white, as if I had just twisted a knife in his deepest wound.
Chloe finally snapped and rushed forward, her voice thick with tears.
“Mavis, don’t take it too far! Truett’s been drinking every day because of you. How can you be so cold? The only reason you’re a project lead is because you slept with some executive at the Southern branch, isn’t it?”
Smack.
The slap was clean and sharp.
It was Jenna who had hit her.
She drew her hand back, her expression icy.
“Watch your mouth. Just because you’re incompetent doesn’t mean you can slander people who aren’t.”
“You hit me? Truett…” Chloe threw herself toward him, crying.
But this time, Truett didn’t move to protect her.
He just kept staring at me, as if searching my face for some trace of the woman he once knew.
I gave him nothing.
The way I looked at him was no different from how I’d look at a stranger.
“Mr. Moretti, the bidding conference starts in ten minutes.”
I raised my wrist and glanced at my watch, my tone calm, as if I were discussing a trivial matter.
“I heard the proposal your team brought today is the same first draft I threw out six months ago.”
I leaned in slightly, my voice low enough for only him to hear.
“Bidding with your ex-girlfriend’s discarded trash isn’t a good look.”
Then I walked right past him and pushed open the doors to the conference room.Â
