By the time he got home, his mother was sitting in the living room.
Her first words were, “Leo won’t stop crying for Selena. The moment Juliette gets near him, he screams. I told her to leave.”
Preston’s mouth tightened, but he said nothing.
He heard the unspoken warning in his mother’s voice.
*Don’t lose Selena.*
He nodded and sank onto the sofa.
His mother glanced at him, then added, “This Juliette—I still don’t like her, even after all these years.”
Preston didn’t respond.
After a pause, his mother asked again, “Where did Selena go? Leo means more to her than anything. She would never just abandon him.”
Preston had no choice but to tell her the truth.
His mother’s expression changed instantly.
“You drove her away?”
“Do you know she’s pregnant?”
Preston went completely still.
“What?”
His mother glared at him.
“I don’t know what kind of husband you’ve been, not even knowing your own wife is pregnant.”
“I ran into Dr. Carter today, and he told me. He’s Selena’s doctor, and he was at your wedding.”
“I don’t care what you have to do. You bring her back. Immediately.”
Preston was still reeling from the shock. He sat there, unable to say a word.Â
