At My Baby Shower He Celebrated Another Woman’s Child Chapter 19

“I won’t.”

Sadie’s smile was vicious.

“Don’t forget those hotel receipts. You were already coming to me while your brother was still alive. You were the one who said Nora only ever talked about work and babies, that she didn’t understand you.”

“You were the one who told me your marriage to Ethan was over!”

“So? Does that make you innocent?”

Graham’s face contorted.

Sadie raised her voice, making sure everyone in the hall could hear.

“You always knew I wanted into the Mercer family, and you knew I had my eye on that trust. You still held Clara and called her your daughter, because you loved watching Nora squirm!”

“That’s enough!”

The managing partner stood in the conference room doorway, his face a mask of fury.

“Mercer, you are suspended, effective immediately. Until this investigation is complete, you are not to contact any party in this matter in the name of the firm.”

Graham’s hand dropped to his side.

Even Sadie went still.

She had meant to drag him down with her, forcing him to save them both.

Instead, she had just sawed off his last escape route.

That evening, an asset preservation order was served on the seaside estate.

The joint savings were frozen. No one could relabel them as Clara’s education fund now.

The insurance policy, the property shares, and every expenditure from the last year were now subject to review in the divorce proceedings.

Graham stood alone in the nursery.

The blanket embroidered with *Clara* had already been taken by Sadie.

The iris flowers on the wall, covered up for a year, were still vibrant.

He picked up the moon-and-stars wind chime from the corner.

It was coated in dust, and one of the little stars had been bent out of shape.

He remembered me hanging it by the bed when I was pregnant, asking him:

“When Iris is born, do you think she’ll like the sound?”

At the time, he’d been looking at a message on his phone and had barely glanced up.

Now, he touched the chime lightly.

A soft, broken music filled the empty room.

No child would ever hear it now.
