Godmother To His Son Then I Took His Kingdom Chapter 05

The safe was still hanging open when Evelyn called.

“Did you find Mara?” she asked, her voice laced with false concern. “She made a point of taking the financial documents. Maybe she doesn’t really want a divorce—she just wants to force you to offer her more.”

The unease in Graham’s eyes slowly hardened into a cold resolve.

“I’ve spoiled her.”

Mara’s social circle, her foundation seat, her respected place on Beacon Hill—it had all come from the Whitmores. Without him, she was nothing.

She was just waiting for him to name his price.

Graham opened his messages and typed:

“When you’re done making a scene, come home. We can discuss compensation. The Back Bay house is yours.”

Evelyn gave a soft laugh on the other end of the line. “Buy her a new Hermès, too. Women always need a way to save face.”

“We’ll talk about it when she gets back.”

He put his phone away. Property, jewelry, numbers in a bank account—there was nothing money couldn’t settle. Mara had always compromised before.

But by the time the morning trust meeting ended, there was still no response.

After lunch, he called again. The phone was still off.

That evening, he opened the message thread for a third time, loosening his tie in irritation.

A full day had passed. The single gray “Delivered” receipt sat beneath his message, cold and unchanged.
