He Asked For Space I Left With His Baby Chapter 11
For the next hour, we talked about everything.
We traded stories about terrible bosses and embarrassing childhood moments.
He told me about his cat’s habit of sleeping on top of the kitchen cabinets.
We debated where to find the best late-night takeout in Dublin.
I never would have guessed my intimidating boss could be so easy to talk to.
I had planned to set things straight with Roman for good after the reception.
Instead, a sharp, stabbing pain shot through my abdomen.
Everything after that was a blur.
When I opened my eyes, I was in a hospital room.
The doctor explained that the minor surgery I’d postponed, combined with weeks of stress, an international move, and almost no sleep, had led to complications.
Thankfully, the treatment had been successful.
When I woke up, Roman was sitting by the bed.
A paper cup of coffee sat cold on the nightstand. He’d obviously been there for hours.
Months ago, the sight of him waiting would have convinced me we could fix this—that if I just held on a little longer, he would finally choose me.
Now, it just made me tired.
The moment he saw I was awake, he stood up to pour me a glass of water.
I turned away. “Thank you, but I can get it myself.”
His hand froze in midair. “Nora, I’m your boyfriend. You don’t have to treat me like a stranger.”
I met his gaze.
I was about to remind him that I’d already ended things.
Before I could, he said in a low voice, “I don’t accept it.”
I let out a long, slow breath.
To Roman, our breakup must have felt like it came out of nowhere.
For me, it had started long before I ever said the words.
It had been built from a thousand little disappointments, a hundred forgotten promises, and every single time he chose someone else over me.
There was nothing left to say.
Then a soft voice came from the doorway.
“Roman, I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
Vanessa stood just outside the door, clutching a folder to her chest.
“I have no idea how to handle the family dinner tomorrow night. Will you come with me?”
