He Chose His Ex So I Chose My Empire Chapter 24
I stayed in Geneva for six months, restructuring the Vance family’s European holdings.
Then, a call came from New York. My grandfather was critically ill.
By the time I flew back, he was already in the ICU.
In the hospital room, the man who had once controlled everything was tethered to a web of tubes. His breathing was labored, and he was shockingly thin.
When he saw me, his eyes lit up, and he struggled to sit.
He reached out and grabbed my wrist.
“Elara,” he said weakly, “you came back.”
Before I could speak, I heard Serena’s voice.
She was beside him, gently adjusting his pillow.
“Mr. Vance, don’t get too excited.”
Seeing her, I instinctively tried to pull my hand away.
“I’ll come back later.”
“Don’t go.”
My grandfather’s grip tightened.
“Let me look at you.”
In the end, I stayed.
For the next month, I was with him through the final chapter of his life.
Serena was, admittedly, a dedicated caretaker.
She was meticulous. Even the nurses praised her.
One month later, my grandfather passed away.
