He Deceived Me So I Destroyed His Family’s Legacy Chapter 32
Before the sentencing, Mrs. Blackwood came to the Hale house.
She had come from her shabby apartment, still wearing the same expensive coat.
Only now there was no maid to straighten her collar, no driver to open her door.
She stood at the bottom of the steps and looked up at me.
“Nora, you won.”
I didn’t invite her in.
“If that’s all you came to say, you can leave.”
She bit her lip.
“Adrian did it for the family.”
“Julian was always out of control, even as a boy. What was his brother supposed to do?”
“Send his own brother to prison?”
Lily stepped out from behind me.
Mrs. Blackwood’s face changed.
She knew Lily would testify, but she clearly hadn’t expected her to dare stand before her.
“What about the child in your belly?”
Lily’s hand trembled slightly.
I was about to speak, but she stopped me.
“It’s gone.”
After we left Manhattan, her body couldn’t endure a fifth pregnancy.
When the doctor laid out all the risks, he didn’t make the choice for her.
In the end, Lily herself signed the consent form.
