He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 09

Rowan started showing up every day.

He often carried the faint, clean scent of disinfectant, as if he’d just come from the hospital.

One evening, I went downstairs to grab a food delivery. He was waiting at the entrance.

“You’re still recovering. Delivery has too much sodium—”

I didn’t want to hear it.

“That’s none of your business.”

He clearly hadn’t expected that.

The next day, his car was parked downstairs again.

“The hospital said you missed your follow-up this week.”

“What does that have to do with you? You’re not my doctor, and you’re not my boyfriend. Rowan, stop crossing boundaries.”

I stepped around him.

He fell into step beside me.

“I’m learning. I’m learning how to be with people, how to be in a relationship, what boundaries are.”

“I’ve known Mia since we were kids. The Ashbournes and the Coles go way back. Our whole lives, people solved her problems for her, and I just fell into that habit. I know now that’s not an excuse.”

He paused.

“And when I was packing up some books at the apartment, I found your discharge papers. That’s when I realized you really did have an appendectomy that night.”
