He Left Our Daughter To Drown But I Saved The Footage Chapter 07

In the CPS interview room, Evan was still trying to talk his way out of it.

“Communications were down. I couldn’t confirm if Claire’s mother’s surgery had gone well, and I had no idea when she was coming back.”

I slid a call log across the table to the investigator.

“At 9:12 a.m. on the day of the evacuation, we spoke for six minutes. I told him the surgery was successful. I also told him I would be on the first flight back to New Orleans that night.”

The investigator looked at Evan.

His face was white. After a long moment, he managed to force out a single sentence.

“I forgot.”

I stared at him.

“What did you forget? That your daughter was in a flood zone?”

Then I pulled up another screenshot.

It was from Brooke’s Instagram Story, showing her, Sadie, and Evan in the lobby of the Atlanta hotel—at the exact time he claimed to have been stuck in traffic.

Evan had nothing left to say.

After the investigator finished her notes, she addressed him directly.

“Until this investigation is complete, all visitations with Maisie must be supervised.”

The door had just opened when Brooke rushed over and grabbed Evan’s arm.

“Sadie heard you were in trouble today. She was so worried she couldn’t sleep all night.”

Evan’s expression immediately filled with concern.

“Was she crying? Did she eat?”

I looked at him, and the absurdity of it all was staggering.

When Maisie was waiting for him in a flood, he hadn’t asked a single one of those questions.

I turned to Brooke.

“How would Sadie know the time and place of Evan’s confidential CPS interview?”

Her eyes flickered. She slowly released his arm.

“I… I must have misremembered. Maybe someone else told her.”
