He Left Our Daughter To Drown But I Saved The Footage Chapter 13

Evan was still crouched on the floor, his voice hoarse.

“If Daddy only stays with you from now on, won’t that be enough?”

Maisie shook her head.

“I don’t need that anymore.”

She paused, then added with heartbreaking gravity,

“I waited too long. If you leave ice cream out, it melts.”

Evan’s mouth moved, but no words came out.

A few days later, during the asset review for our divorce, my lawyer handed me a stack of bank records.

Over the past year, the money Evan had transferred to Brooke exceeded fifty thousand dollars.

On top of the emergency fund and her gambling debts, he had paid for Sadie’s private school tuition, her rent, and more than a dozen other “emergency expenses.”

Evan flipped through the statements, his hands shaking.

“That can’t be right. She always said she was barely getting by, that raising a child alone was so hard.”

The lawyer looked at him coldly.

“Sadie’s legal father has been paying his child support on time, every month. Brooke’s own income and savings were nowhere near as dire as she claimed.”

Evan’s hand stilled.
