He Locked Me Out Now He’s Begging Me Back Chapter 56
She still began with blame.
“So you won’t be satisfied until you’ve turned father and daughter against each other?”
“I didn’t force them to answer each other in public.”
“But you posted those documents!”
“I posted them to correct Tessa’s false accusations.”
Heavy breathing came through the line.
“Daniel’s apartment is tiny now. I sold my old house, and I don’t even have a permanent place to stay anymore. Tessa says she’s cutting us off. This family is in pieces. Do you really feel nothing at all?”
I held the phone and didn’t answer right away.
When she sold her own house, it had been because she expected to move into the one I had paid the most for.
She had assigned Daniel and me to the ADU and herself to the guest room, and thought that was simply three generations living together.
Now that the house was gone, she had finally learned that someone else’s deed cannot provide for your retirement.
“You chose to sell your own house.”
“I did it to help Tessa!”
“Then talk to Tessa.”
“She won’t answer my calls!”
There it was again.
The same old logic.
They each made their own choices, then came looking for me to absorb the consequences.
“I’m not going to contact her for you, either.”
“Claire, how can you be this ruthless?”
“Because I’m not your family anymore.”
I hung up and gave the number to my lawyer.
That evening, my lawyer sent a message.
“Daniel’s public statement satisfies the correction requirement as it pertains to him. Tessa must still issue her own correction. Deadline is in twenty-four hours.”
I replied: “Proceed as planned.”
No bargaining.
No more chances for anyone to delay.
