He Priced Me At A Penny So I Married Another Chapter 14
Tori’s eyes went red.
“You saw me take out the scissors. And you were the one holding her back!”
There was the sound of a door opening downstairs. Neighbors were standing on the stairs, watching. Mrs. Lawson came back up and grabbed Tori, telling her to lower her voice.
Tori shook her off and pointed at Derek.
“You were always complaining her things took up too much room. If the quilts moved in and the closet was left for her, where was I supposed to put my stuff?”
The hallway went abruptly silent.
I looked at Derek.
He had put off moving my things again and again, saying the new wardrobe still smelled of paint and that the smell would cling to the cotton my mother had sewn.
I had even praised him for being so thoughtful.
Derek’s lowered fingers curled inward.
“Her things are gone now. I was going to wait until after you moved in and then give you all the space.”
I looked at the quilt and remembered the first time my mother had visited that townhouse.
Tori’s luggage had been there that day, too.
Derek said she was only staying temporarily. My mother watched for a while, then called me out onto the terrace and asked if I was unhappy.
Afraid she might take a dislike to Derek, I laughed and spent a long time explaining him away.
