He Was Reborn To Claim Me But I’m Already Married Chapter 26
The day Grandmother arrived from Newport, Mother was waiting in the sitting room before the sun was fully up.
Though she still said, “I’m only doing this for Claire. It has nothing to do with her.”
Evelyn and I exchanged a look but didn’t call her out on it.
The car stopped outside.
Grandmother stepped out with her cane, moving much more slowly than I remembered.
At the sight of her silver hair, Mother fell silent.
In the end, Grandmother spoke first.
“How have you been all these years?”
Tears spilled from Mother’s eyes.
“You’re only asking now? Isn’t it a little late?”
Grandmother nodded.
“It is too late.”
“I always thought choosing a safe road for you was how I loved you. When you refused to see me, I even blamed you for being immature.”
“Only later did I realize that the truly immature one was me.”
She didn’t make excuses.
She didn’t say she was only doing what was best for her daughter.
Mother turned away, her shoulders trembling.
Grandmother looked at her back.
“I’m sorry.”
Mother had waited many years to hear those two words.
But when she finally did, she cried like a child.
