He Was Reborn To Claim Me But I’m Already Married Chapter 27

Grandmother didn’t step forward.

Only when Mother turned and embraced her did she slowly lift a hand and pat her back.

I stood at the foot of the stairs, my nose stinging.

At some point, Daniel had come up behind me and steadied me with a hand on my shoulder.

“Careful on the steps.”

Leaning against him, I whispered, “In the last life, they never made up before they died.”

Daniel didn’t understand.

He thought I was talking about a nightmare.

“They will in this one,” he said with quiet certainty.

Once Grandmother moved in, my days of indulgence were over.

Whatever Mother forbade me to eat, Grandmother forbade, too.

When Mother told me to walk more, Grandmother stood in the garden with her cane and supervised.

I couldn’t help but protest.

“You used to spoil me more than anyone.”

Grandmother replied serenely, “That’s exactly why I can’t let you get away with this nonsense now.”

For a moment, I was speechless.

Evelyn laughed so hard she had to lean against the wall.

When she caught her breath, I asked Grandmother, “When Mother tried to force you to marry, she also said it was because she loved you. Do you think that’s the same thing?”

The smile slowly faded from Grandmother’s face.

She thought about it seriously.

“No.”

“What you eat is for the doctor to decide. Who you marry is for you to decide.”

When she finished, she looked at Mother.

Mother nodded, her eyes red.

That afternoon, the four of us sat in the garden for a long time.

The wind blew a few late-blooming petals onto Grandmother’s and Mother’s clasped hands.

Some mistakes can never be undone.

But as long as everyone is still here, an apology is not too late.

More than anything, that was probably what I had wanted to change.
