I Died In His Arms Now I’ll Marry Another Chapter 26

I started packing early, keeping myself busy every day.

Then one day, Callum didn’t come.

He sent word through his assistant that the Royal Guard had identified the poisoner. Adrian had asked him to be there in person to ensure there were no problems with the arrest and transfer of evidence.

For some reason, I felt uneasy all day.

Dark clouds covered the sky. It would rain soon.

Callum’s leg always hurt in rainy weather. I didn’t know if he had remembered to bring an umbrella.

Distracted, I flipped through the book in my hands.

Not long after, the assistant I had sent out for news hurried in.

“They caught the suspect! Callum is at the Springwell Hotel right now.”

Thunder crashed.

Rain came pouring down.

I didn’t even have time to feel relieved. I grabbed an umbrella and rushed out the door.

The closer I got to the hotel, the more panicked the people on the street became.

I lifted the edge of my umbrella and saw thick black smoke rolling from the top of the building.

Callum.

I ran forward like a madwoman and grabbed a Royal Guard.

“Where is Callum?”

“Commander Rhodes still hasn’t come out! Someone released an accelerant mixed with wolfsbane inside. No one can shift, and wounds are almost impossible to heal. The structure’s about to collapse—you can’t go in!”

All the sounds around me suddenly seemed far away.

The Springwell Hotel was being swallowed by flames.

I saw Adrian standing in disarray at the cordon, and I threw my umbrella aside and seized him.

“Where’s Callum? Weren’t you with him?”

Adrian’s face was deathly pale.

“The fire cut off the corridor. We got separated. I’m sorry.”

I looked toward the sea of fire and ran for it without a second thought.

Adrian grabbed me from behind.

“The fire’s too big! You can’t go in!”

I tore myself free with all my strength and screamed at him,

“Adrian, you already killed me once in our last life. Are you going to kill me again in this one?”

He froze.

I took the chance to break through the line and rush into the flames through a side service entrance.

The next instant, the hotel’s central structure collapsed with a deafening roar.
