I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 06
That same day, King Arthur signed the notice canceling our engagement.
But he did not agree to let Julian marry Iris. A common girl with no territory, no council seat, and no royal training could not become the future Luna Queen on the strength of a prince’s favor alone.
Mrs. Hart still held out hope.
She said the senior Royal Healer, Martin Hale, had been summoned back from overseas. Martin had known Julian since childhood; he knew his body, his health, everything. Perhaps he could cure the amnesia.
“Once he remembers, everything will go back to normal. No one is more suited to stand beside him than you.”
I picked up a pair of scissors, intending to cut the wedding gown to pieces.
Mrs. Hart cried out and snatched the dress away.
“You spent half a year on that embroidery!”
“The wedding is canceled. What’s the point in keeping it?”
She locked the gown in the dressing room, still believing—as all elders did—that years of affection could not simply vanish.
They hadn’t considered that even if Julian recovered his memory, I wouldn’t go back.
I set the scissors down, pressing my fingers against the dull pain in my chest. But my mind had never been clearer.
Some things, once cracked, can never be whole again.
Like the drop of blood on the white eagle’s wing, a stain that could never be wiped away.
Like Julian.
