I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 41

Even after returning to the estate, I still wasn’t sure whether to tell my father.

Martin, on the other hand, seemed as though a great weight had been lifted. He busied himself buying a small house in the capital. He asked me to write his family a letter, saying he had been caught by a repeatedly wounded venomous snake and couldn’t come home yet, and that they must not forget to feed his long-lived turtle.

I asked if his family would understand the code.

He waved a hand and said it didn’t matter. Feeding the turtle was the important part.

“I’ll see that brat to his grave, then the turtle can see me to mine. A perfect arrangement.”

My hand paused over the paper, but I wrote it down all the same.

On the day Martin moved, my father told me some news.

King Arthur had approved a political marriage for Adrian.

Not to me.

To Mara Black.

Mara was the daughter of the Stoneplain pack Alpha. Tall, direct, and strong-willed, she had long been passed over by vain men who found her insufficiently delicate, and she had looked down on most of them in return. It was why she still hadn’t chosen a mate.

Naturally, Adrian was not pleased.

My father laughed with open satisfaction, saying the King was probably still drunk from his birthday banquet.

It had been two days. No amount of alcohol lasted that long.

My instinct told me Rowan was behind this.

On the wedding day, the royal convoy passed down the capital’s main avenue. Adrian sat in the open ceremonial car looking like a man headed to his own funeral.

I watched from the window of a hotel room overlooking the street.

Behind me, Rowan’s soft laugh sounded, low and cheerful.

“Look at them. Aren’t they a perfect match?”
