I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 52

I had Cedar Ridge security restrain Iris and asked her directly, “You have two chances. Where did the drug come from, and who sent you here?”

She had neither the means nor the authority to obtain a colorless, odorless prescription drug like that. Someone was behind her.

Iris denied it at first.

I reminded her she had one chance left.

At last, she admitted she had drugged the wine—but still refused to name her source.

So I stood and gave the order.

“Turn her over to the royal security bureau. File the case as attempted poisoning of a royal political marriage target. Apply for the maximum detention period.”

She finally panicked and offered to confess.

I had her taken away anyway while her recent communications and movements were investigated.

The evidence quickly pointed to Adrian.

Iris had looked down on the local official she was about to leave with and had secretly resumed contact with Adrian. He had promised that if she ruined my reputation, he would let her remain at his royal estate.

I had someone leak false information that Iris planned to hand their private messages to reporters at a bar in Red Harbor.

Adrian took the bait. He came running, not to save her, but to warn her to keep her mouth shut.

As he left the private room, he ran straight into Mara, who had received an anonymous tip.

Mara beat him so badly he left in an ambulance.

I watched from the hotel across the street with a cup of tea, having arranged only for reporters and witnesses.

When I looked up, though, I saw Rowan standing at another window, smiling at me with infuriating gentleness.

He was clearly the one who had brought Mara there.
