If Your Heart Doesn’t Lean Towards Me I Don’t Want It Chapter 14

The sentence was delivered quickly.

“The defendant, Tessa Miller, is hereby sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment for the illegal dissemination of intimate images.”

Tessa completely lost it, whirling on Ellis.

“Ellis, help me! Tell Coralie to drop the charges! She always did whatever you said—she’ll listen to you!”

Ellis looked up at her, his face a cold mask.

He was only here today because he knew I would be.

He wasn’t here for Tessa.

“I can’t help you.”

Tessa grew frantic.

“What do you mean, you can’t?”

“She used to do anything for you. Just go say something!”

A bitter smile twisted Ellis’s lips.

“Really? I can’t even get her to answer my calls.”

Tessa didn’t care about his feelings. All she cared about was staying out of prison.

“Then beg her! Tell her you were wrong! I’ll stop contacting you, I promise!”

Ellis cut her off.

“Tessa, my child is dead.”

Tessa froze.

Ellis’s voice dropped, thick with emotion.

“Tell me—what right do I have to ask her for anything?”

Tessa’s tears started again, harder this time.

“Ellis, you can’t just abandon me like this…”

But this time, Ellis just repeated, “I can’t help you.”

Tessa’s voice turned shrill.

“You always took care of everything for me!”

“When I couldn’t pay my rent, you sent me money. When I couldn’t find a job, you got me one…”

Ellis looked at her, his voice dripping with self-loathing.

“That was when I was a fool.”

Tessa stared at him for two seconds, then let out a harsh, ugly laugh.

“Ellis, what kind of act are you putting on now?”
