If Your Heart Doesn’t Lean Towards Me I Don’t Want It Chapter 16

Lucian cut him off, his voice like steel.

“Ellis.”

“Coralie and I are engaged.”

Ellis went rigid.

Lucian looked at him, his expression devoid of warmth.

“A man like you doesn’t deserve forgiveness.”

“And you’re not done being held accountable, either.”

Ellis’s gaze slowly dropped to my left hand.

Only then did he see the diamond ring on my finger.

“You… when did…”

I met his gaze calmly.

“That’s none of your business. Ellis, I’ve told you repeatedly. We’re over.”

“Coralie…”

I didn’t look at him again. I turned and left with Lucian.

Later, I heard that Ellis had quit his job and moved out of the city.

Later still, people said he was in a terrible state, that he barely saw anyone and just kept muttering my name.

When I heard these things, I was on my balcony, watering my flowers.

I felt nothing.

The plant I had neglected for so long had already sprouted new shoots.

Lucian came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist, resting his chin on my shoulder.

“What are you thinking about?”

I looked at the tiny green leaves.

“Nothing.”

Just then, my phone lit up.

The lawyer had sent a notification that a new case had been accepted by the court.

At the top, under Defendant, was one name: Ellis Lombardi.

Lucian let me go, giving me space.

“Coralie, if you want to drop it, there’s still time.”

I saved the notice and shook my head calmly.

“Tessa’s case is closed.”

“His isn’t.”
