Make Them Regret It Chapter 09

I grabbed her wrist.

Isabella froze for a split second, then let out a piercing shriek.

“A ghost! There’s a ghost!”

The burning paper dropped from her hand, igniting a corner of the carpet.

She tore her arm from my grasp and stumbled back. When she saw that I had actually sat up, the terror on her face hardened into a vicious glare.

She drew the ornamental dagger from her waist.

It had been a gift for my eighteenth birthday.

“Why won’t you just die?” she hissed. “Why won’t you die?”

The dagger plunged toward me.

I had no Core, and I hadn’t eaten in seven days. I could barely lift my hand.

The blade drove into my shoulder, pinning me to the bottom of the coffin. The world went dark at the edges.

She yanked it free, raising it to strike again.

I snatched the heavy candlestick beside the coffin and smashed it into her forehead with all the strength I had left.

Hot wax splattered across her skin.

She screamed, clutching her head, and at last, I heard footsteps pounding toward the room.

My father, my brothers, and Colton burst through the door.

Isabella threw herself into my second brother’s arms, pointing at me with a shaking hand.
