My Fiancé Postponed Our Wedding So I Married The Don He Feared Chapter 05
Damian watched us walk away, as if all the strength had been drained from his body.
He stumbled forward to follow, but the Morettis held him back.
Mr. Moretti’s face was ashen, his voice a furious whisper. “Damian, haven’t you humiliated yourself enough?”
Mrs. Moretti’s eyes betrayed obvious unease.
Gabriel’s appearance was a variable none of them had anticipated. A more powerful Don stepping in meant the Moretti family’s once-secure alliance had spiraled completely out of control.
My parents, on the other hand, were nearly speechless with joy.
“Gabriel is so much better than Damian.”
My mother gripped my father’s hand, tears of happiness streaming down her face.
Dad nodded vigorously.
“He is. He’s responsible, he’s capable. And most importantly, the way he looks at Olivia, that’s real love.”
The clerk at the registration office had seen plenty of couples come and go, but clearly nothing like today’s spectacle.
She looked at Gabriel and me with curiosity and a touch of admiration.
“Do you have all your documents?”
“We do.”
I handed over my papers.
Gabriel was already prepared, down to the joint photo, which had been taken in advance.
He placed the photo and documents on the counter in one smooth motion, as if he’d rehearsed this a thousand times.
I stared at him, surprised.
“Gabriel, when did you even get the photo ready?”
Gabriel leaned close to my ear and laughed softly. “I’ve been wanting to marry you for a long time. I was just waiting for the right moment.”
His voice was low, warm breath grazing my skin.
My heart skipped, and heat rose unbidden to my cheeks.
I looked at this man before me, deep and tender all at once. I thought of how he’d stepped out of that car. I thought of the moment he said “I’m here.” I thought of how he’d pulled me into his arms without a second’s hesitation.
So there really was someone in this world who could give me absolute strength at my most helpless moment.
The registration process went surprisingly smoothly.
Maybe it was because Gabriel’s presence was too commanding to question. Maybe it was because he’d already prepared everything.
When two marriage certificates were placed in our hands, the weight in my palms felt heavy.
It was the certainty and security I’d never truly had in five years.
Gabriel looked at me, his eyes full of warmth and joy.
He whispered in my ear, “Mrs. DeLuca, from now on, you’re mine.”
My heart swelled, and I broke into a tearful smile.
“Yes. I’m yours.”
When we walked out through the front doors, the chaos outside seemed to belong to another world entirely.
Damian and Bianca were gone.
Only my parents remained, beaming as they came forward.
“My darling girl. Congratulations.”
Mom took my hand, her eyes glistening again.
“Now I can finally stop worrying.”
Dad clapped Gabriel on the shoulder, his tone earnest. “Gabriel, Olivia has had a rough few years. Take good care of her from now on.”
Gabriel nodded solemnly.
“Mom, Dad. You have my word. I’ll make Olivia happy.”
