My Fiancé Swapped Places With His Twin At The Altar Chapter 18

My Fiancé Swapped Places With His Twin At The Altar Chapter 18

Half a month later, I successfully managed my first small project from start to finish.

Outside of work, Alessio also took me to many places.

It was almost as if he knew the wish list I had once written in my diary.

The first stop was a small town in Finland where you could see the northern lights.

A long time ago, I’d written that I wanted to go there.

I had even asked Matteo carefully, “Someday, can we go see the northern lights?”

He had kissed my forehead and said, “Of course. Once the wedding’s over, we’ll go.”

Later, that wedding became Ashley’s.

And that promise became just another empty word.

That night, I stood in the snow and watched ribbons of green light slowly unfurl across the sky.

All at once, I started to cry.

Alessio didn’t ask why.

He only wrapped my scarf more snugly around my neck.

“If you’re cold, we can go back.”

I shook my head.

“I’m not cold.”

I was freezing.

But I stayed right where I was.

Later, we went to the little chapel by the sea.

We went to the old bookstore I had always wanted to visit.

We fed white pigeons in the square.

At every stop, Alessio took one picture of me.

He wasn’t one for compliments. Every time I asked if I looked good, he would just answer seriously, “You do.”

One night, while unpacking, I found my old diary at the bottom of my suitcase.

Tucked inside was a photograph.

In it, Matteo and I were standing outside the pit at the racetrack.

He had only just recovered then, his face still pale, but his smile was bright.

On the back of the photo, he had written: *Bianca, when I’m better, I’ll give you a home.*

I looked at those words for a long time, then slipped the picture back into the diary.

I didn’t tear it up. I didn’t throw it away.

It was a relic of the past.

It reminded me that I really had loved him once.

And it reminded me that, eventually, I had woken up.
