My Husband Asked For A Divorce On His Retirement Day—So I Revealed My 30-Year Secret Chapter 15
She turned to Griffin, her voice suddenly hard and urgent. “Griffin, don’t let them confuse you. Our trip is next week. The deposit is already paid.”
Griffin just stared at her. “You said that once the house was sold, we could upgrade to an even better European tour.”
Amanda’s eyes flickered. “I was just planning for our future.”
“Planning for what?” His voice shook. “Planning to take my house? My retirement money?”
Pressed into a corner, Amanda blurted out, “Well, you had to have some assets, didn’t you?”
The moment the words left her mouth, she fell silent.
The room went still.
Griffin stood there, looking as if the last layer of his dignity had been ripped away. Only now did he finally understand.
Amanda had never wanted a late-in-life romance. She had wanted the house he thought he could sell and the retirement funds he thought he could spend.
But now, the house wasn’t his. He had no claim on Hearthstone.
His children were too busy worrying about their own finances to spare him a thought. And a large chunk of his remaining cash was already tied up in her travel scheme.
Amanda grabbed her bag, her face ugly with contempt. “Griffin, if you can’t even sort out your own affairs, don’t drag me down with you.”
He looked at her in disbelief. “Amanda?”
She didn’t bother pretending anymore. “If you can’t sell the house, then what are we even talking about?”
With that, she turned on her heel and walked out. The sound of the door closing wasn’t loud, but it was final.
Griffin slowly sank back into his chair, looking as if he had aged ten years in ten minutes.
A long time passed before he looked up at me. “Donatella…”
This time, he didn’t use my full name with his usual clipped authority. For the first time, there was pleading in his voice.
“We were married for more than thirty years.”
I gathered my documents. “After you signed those papers, we weren’t anymore.”
