My Racer Chose Her So I Canceled Our Wedding Chapter 06
I Chose Myself
After my flight landed, I sent him two words.
We’re over.
Then I removed the SIM card from my phone and threw it away.
I never saw the calls that followed.
He called again and again until his phone died.
That night, he sat alone in the apartment surrounded by everything we had once shared, refusing to believe I was actually gone.
I bought a new number and started over.
With the money I had saved over the years, I rented a small studio in a busy commercial district.
I used what remained to hire a private investigator.
I still didn’t know who had reported his co-driver or why the blame had been pushed onto me.
But I intended to find out.
A month later, my studio was ready.
I turned it into a fashion design business.
Fashion design had been my major in college, and before I started building my life around Adrian’s career, I used to take private commissions.
I had even designed a custom racing suit for him once.
He never wore it.
He told me privately designed suits couldn’t be used in professional competition, so eventually I stopped asking.
Now, returning to design felt surprisingly natural.
Within days of opening, orders began coming in faster than expected.
For the first time in years, my days revolved around my own work instead of his races.
One afternoon, my assistant approached me with an amused smile.
“One of our regular clients wants to discuss another suit order with you over dinner.”
She gave me a knowing look.
“He specifically asked for you.”
“Stop gossiping and finish sorting today’s orders.”
For the first time in a long time, I felt like myself again.
Back in the city I had left behind, he looked nothing like the Rally Championship star everyone knew.
He sat with a bottle in his hand, making another call.
“Did you find her?”
Before the person on the other end could answer, the apartment door opened.
His former co-driver walked in with red-rimmed eyes.
A few days earlier, her test results had come back.
Positive.
Now, when he looked at her, there was no tenderness left.
“You actually came here?”
She swallowed.
“The organizers know about the drugs. They’re going to punish me. You have to help me.”
“You knew exactly what the rules were.”
“Someone saw what you did and reported you. Fine. But then you let everyone believe she was responsible.”
His voice rose.
“If you hadn’t framed her, she wouldn’t have left me.”
She grabbed his sleeve.
“I was exhausted before the race. I only took the stimulant because I was scared I’d lose focus and cost you the championship.”
“And I never said she reported me. People assumed it. I just… didn’t correct them.”
Tears filled her eyes.
“Please. If you speak to the organizers, maybe they won’t make this public.”
He pulled his arm away.
“You think I’m going to protect you?”
She stared at him.
“But you kissed me.”
“That was a stupid game.”
“I never loved you.”
Before she could answer, the voice from his phone cut through the room.
“We found her.”
He went completely still.
“She opened a fashion studio.”
