My Wedding Dress In The Garage His Widow In My Home Chapter 06

After walking Paige upstairs, Owen stayed in his car.

He lit up his phone screen again and again.

Still nothing from Nora.

Maybe the one-dollar lease really had been too much. But he was only now realizing that he had asked Paige what she needed time and again, while never once asking Nora what she wanted.

When he got back to the apartment and pushed open the study door, he froze.

The bookshelves were empty.

Nora’s design drafts, her professional books—even the old mug that used to sit on the corner of the desk was gone.

He called her at once.

The first call went unanswered. The second was declined. On the third, an automated voice informed him the number was no longer in service.

She was gone.

Owen ran downstairs and tore open the mailbox. Two white envelopes lay inside.

The notice from the escrow company was brutally clear: because the buyer had withdrawn the funds and terminated the transaction, the duplex closing had been officially canceled.

The other letter was from a law firm. It was a formal demand for the settlement of their joint account, sent on Nora’s behalf.

No argument. No confrontation.

With one document after another, she had severed the wedding, the house, and their future.

Clutching the letters, Owen ran back upstairs. A glint of cold light on the console table by the entrance caught his eye.

The engagement ring was sitting there, pinning down the printed bank statement.

He picked it up, the edge of the band biting into his fingertips.

After three years, all she had left him was the ring.
