Tears streamed down Chloe’s face.
“Give it to Elara,” she whispered.
“She’s carrying your child… As long as I can be with you at the end, that’s all that matters to me.”
Archer’s eyes went red.
He crushed her to his chest and buried his face in her hair.
“Nothing is going to happen to you, Chloe. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.”
“I won’t lose you.”
He reached out, took the beacon from the copilot, and fastened it onto Chloe himself.
Someone in the cabin burst into tears, moved by their epic love story.
Only the copilot spoke up for me.
“Captain, what about Elara? There’s less than two minutes. She’s pregnant—she won’t make it.”
Archer’s gaze snapped to me, cold and clairvoyant.
“This is what you wanted, isn’t it?”
“You’re using my child to force me to give you the last beacon, so Chloe dies instead.”
“Do you have any idea how talented she is? She’s a natural ballerina with her whole life ahead of her.”
“You can’t dance anymore, so you want to ruin her, too.”
“Elara, you make me sick. I won’t let you win.”
His voice nearly drowned out the shriek of the descending plane.
But I remained silent.
One lifetime was enough.
