She Framed Me As Unfit So I’ll See Her In Court Chapter 06

The taillights of the police car had barely vanished when Caleb called.

I answered and started recording.

“Do you have to make this such a big deal?” he said, his anger barely restrained. “The police already went to Sloan. Nia, don’t forget this affects Maya.”

He paused for a second, then his tone turned gentle.

“If you stop going to the police, I’ll have Sloan delete everything. For Maya’s sake, let’s end this here.”

This wasn’t a truce. He had realized things were slipping out of his control and wanted to stuff what was already in the police record back into the box labeled *family dispute*.

I looked at the case receipts on the table.

“Caleb, a strange man showed up at the home where our daughter lives. The court can decide what’s best for Maya. Don’t call me again. Talk to my lawyer.”

I hung up.

In the bedroom, my mother was holding Maya, her hands still trembling. The moment she saw me, she stood up. “I’m going to Caleb’s. I’m going to ask him what the hell he thinks he’s doing!”

I caught her wrist just as she reached for her coat.

In my last life, she had done the same thing, gone alone to Caleb’s house. Sloan had refused to let her in, and Caleb had called her “emotionally unstable” in front of the neighbors, then included that humiliation in the materials he submitted to CPS.

When she came home that day, my mother didn’t sleep all night.

I pulled her into my arms and patted her back gently.

“Mom, don’t go. I’ve already called the police, and I have a lawyer. Just stay with Maya. Leave the rest to me.”

Only then did her clenched hand slowly loosen.

I would never forget any of it, not even after dying once.

But this time, I wouldn’t let you live in fear for me again, and I certainly wouldn’t let you fight my battles for me.
