She Framed Me As Unfit So I’ll See Her In Court Chapter 07

After Maya fell asleep, I went into the kitchen and found my mother wiping away tears with her back to me. She was hunched over the stove, pouring milk into a pot, her hand shaking so hard it hit the rim more than once.

“Mom.”

She hurriedly wiped her face and forced a smile. “Just warming you some milk.”

But when she turned around, her eyes were still red.

“The old neighbors are all talking about what’s online.” She held my hand, her voice quivering. “I know it’s all lies. I believe you. But Nia… am I useless? I can’t protect either of you.”

Something in my chest tightened viciously.

In my last life, after Maya was taken away, she had put on her best dress and carried an apple pie she’d baked herself to beg Caleb’s parents for help.

A lawyer and a nanny stopped her at the door.

In the struggle, the pie had fallen on the steps, the plate shattering on the ground. She crouched to pick it up, cut her hand on the broken china, and still kept apologizing to them.

I hugged my mother hard.

This time, I would never let her lower herself and beg anyone again. Anyone who wanted to destroy us would pay for it in evidence and in court.

Because in my last life, six months later, she died of a heart attack in the apartment where she could no longer afford the rent.

No one found her.
