She Stole My Fiancé So I Married The Prince Chapter 17

I said to the Royal Guard, “Please escort them out. Grandma Maeve has only just arrived in the capital. Don’t let unrelated people disturb her.”

The security doors slowly closed, shutting out my mother’s hateful, despairing screams.

After that, Westvale sent me expensive gifts every holiday.

I accepted every one, then transferred their equivalent value back into my parents’ private accounts.

I owed them nothing, and I wouldn’t let them owe me anything either.

One day in early winter, news came from Northreach.

Adrian had died on the battlefield.

After learning I was married, he had not returned to the capital. Instead, he stayed in the North and joined the front lines.

He had wanted to prove to me that this version of him was different from the one in my past life.

But in the end, he died there all the same.

His final letter reached me through the border command center.

In it, he wrote that he no longer needed my protection and that he was every bit Prince Rowan’s equal.

By the end, he finally admitted that in our previous life, he had wronged me.

He had believed Isabella’s provocations and lashed out at me with cruel words. He had enjoyed letting me shoulder everything for him and had never once given me the respect I deserved.

Looking back, he realized I had never wronged him in any way.

If there were another life, he hoped he could make it up to me.

But in this one, all he wanted was for me to live well.

When I finished the letter, I locked it in a drawer.

After Adrian’s death, rumors spread all over the capital. Isabella had first lost her engagement, and then her former fiancé had died at war. No Pack was willing to forge a marriage alliance with her.

Because of that, my father made a direct request to King Cedric.

He claimed that since I only knew how to train horses and was ignorant of royal etiquette, I was unfit for the duties of a future Crown Princess. He wanted Isabella installed in the heir’s wing as my “private companion” and assistant for royal events, supposedly to guide me.

He even claimed this would demonstrate the royal family’s trust in Westvale and the close bond between us sisters.

The ailing King Cedric agreed.

Everyone knew what my parents really wanted: to get Isabella close to Prince Rowan. If she could become his lover, Westvale would regain its access to royal benefits.

But she could never become a second Luna, much less replace my legally registered partner.

Even so, my mother dressed Isabella with extra care and personally escorted her into the heir’s wing.

When they arrived, Emma was crying.

I was holding my daughter, soothing her softly, but my mother didn’t reach out to help. She barely even glanced at Emma.

All her attention was on Isabella.

She smiled at me and said, “Camille, don’t be upset. You married the heir to the throne. Women will always be flocking to him.”

“Better that Isabella stays by his side than some stranger reaps the benefits.”

“I’m doing this for your own good, too. Everyone in the Royal Castle has their own agenda. At least you and your sister can look out for each other.”

Holding my daughter, I took two steps back.

“Luna Marianne, at least there is still sincerity in the Royal Castle.”

“The people who have always wanted to swallow me whole were you.”

I had already retreated as far from them as possible.

But they still came looking for me.

This time, it wasn’t me trying to take anything from them.

It was them provoking me.
