The Underboss Voted No So I Chose A New Life Chapter 07
Hadrian’s messages had gone from *Are you still mad?* to *Where the hell did you go?*
Sarah’s were more direct.
*Why is the wedding planner calling to say you canceled everything?*
*The Bellini family adviser is looking for you, too. Did you really have to take it this far?*
I didn’t reply.
The apartment I’d rented was small, with an empty lot outside the window.
Every so often, I could hear a train whistle in the distance.
When I opened my suitcase, I found the old bus ticket was still there.
The envelope I’d set in front of Hadrian the night before had been empty.
At some point, the ticket with *Last one* written on it must have slipped through a tear in the envelope and into the suitcase lining.

At 4:50 in the morning in the Hamptons, Hadrian stood alone on the estate’s terrace.
He had promised to film the sunrise for me.
The sky was just beginning to pale. He took the first picture. Failed to send.
The second, too.
The ocean wind blew the note off the outside of his medicine kit.
He bent to pick it up and saw, on the back, one more line written in small letters.
*You won’t need me to get the return tickets.*
For the first time, he exited our chat and opened the smart lock records for our apartment.
I hadn’t gone home last night.
He called the building manager, and at last, his voice changed.
“I need you to go upstairs right now and check if my fiancée is home.”
Ten minutes later, standing in the empty bedroom, the building manager told him, “Mr. Bellini, everything that belonged to Ms. Greco is gone.”
