The Wedding Game That Cost Him Everything Chapter 06

Sloane lay on Tucker’s bed wearing Isolde’s robe, scrolling on her phone.

“I wouldn’t be so sure. You scattered her parents’ ashes.”

Tucker glanced toward the study, his expression complicated.

The two boxes he had dumped into the fish tank had actually been filled with ashes from the fireplace.

The moment he left the ballroom, he had texted Isolde to tell her that.

He just hadn’t dared let Sloane know.

This childhood friend of his was genuinely a little insane.

At the very least, he couldn’t imagine actually bringing Isolde’s parents’ real ashes to the wedding.

“Oh, so you mean Isolde’s parents’ real ashes are still sitting safely in your study safe?”

Sloane didn’t even turn around, her tone light.

Tucker’s chest tightened.

“What are you talking about?”

Sloane sat up cross-legged, the robe slipping down her shoulders without her seeming to notice or care.

Tucker immediately looked away.

Sloane had never been particularly concerned with being fully dressed. She often just threw on one of his T-shirts and sprawled on his bed, chatting and playing on her phone.

“What’s the big deal? I’ve always been generous. It’s not like you’re losing out.”

Sloane had spent a few years abroad. After she came back, she seemed more restrained on the surface.

But Tucker always had the feeling she had only gotten worse.

“You’ve gotten boring, too. If you’re going to scatter ashes, use the real ones.”

She sat on the bed, smiling at him.

Tucker rushed into the study and opened the safe.

It was empty.
