The Widow’s Fate They Chose Was My Escape Plan Chapter 15

The old sedan had just turned onto Park Avenue when we saw a convoy waiting at the intersection.

The men standing by the cars looked stunned when they saw our single, dilapidated vehicle.

“This is Miss Sterling’s wedding car? Why is there only—”

Someone jabbed him with an elbow. “Keep your voice down.”

“Follow us.”

The driver followed the convoy ahead, and I instinctively tightened my grip on my dress.

By New York tradition, the bride prepared envelopes with tips for the driver and staff.

But I had nothing. I hadn’t received a single asset from my family.

As the long convoy drove toward the Quinn residence, I could hear onlookers whispering.

“The Sterlings are a major family. How could they not even give her a proper distribution from her trust?”

“Just a few days ago, the Quinns delivered all those engagement gifts. The Sterlings have made a real mess of this. That poor girl…”

I lowered my eyes and sat silently, knowing that after this, the Sterling family’s reputation was ruined.

The old car rattled on. I had assumed the Quinns would have me enter through a service entrance, but instead, the convoy led us straight to the main gate.

“The bride has arrived!”
