They Called My Daughter A Bastard Until The Lycan Queen Called Me Mom Chapter 08

The Truth From the Pit

Helena suddenly lunges toward Kael.

Gavin and Derek move with her.

The white sheet slips under their hands.

Sera’s face appears.

So do the bruises and whip marks covering her body.

The three Blackwoods stop breathing.

“No…”

Helena collapses first.

Gavin stumbles back.

Derek just stares.

“That’s really her.”

His voice cracks.

“That’s Sera.”

Helena reaches for her.

I kick her hand away.

“Don’t touch her.”

My voice is ice.

“You don’t deserve to.”

I hate that Sera’s body is exposed in front of all these people.

But I need the Blackwoods to see what their choices did to her.

Elena gestures toward the door.

Two Royal Guards bring in a middle-aged male with his hands bound behind his back.

The moment he sees Lily covered in blood, he starts shaking.

I look at the Blackwoods.

“This is the warden of the Pit.”

“You didn’t believe my people.”

“You didn’t believe your own servants.”

“So let’s hear it from the male who had Sera under his control.”

The warden drops to his knees.

“It was Miss Lily.”

He points at her with a trembling hand.

“She paid me.”

Lily’s face twists.

“Shut up!”

The warden talks faster.

“She told me the Blackwoods hated Sera. She said Alpha Gavin and the rest of the family wanted her broken.”

Gavin’s face changes.

“I never said that!”

“I know!” the warden cries.

“But I believed her.”

“She said no one in Blackwood Pack would care what happened to Sera. She promised I’d be protected.”

He swallows hard.

“So we dosed Sera with wolfsbane.”

“We chained her up.”

“We whipped her.”

Kael’s hands tighten around Sera.

The warden lowers his head.

“When I went back later… she wasn’t breathing.”

My chest feels like it is being crushed.

I don’t let myself imagine Sera chained in the dark, unable to shift, waiting for someone to come for her.

I only lift a hand.

Rosalie understands.

She drags Lily up and slaps her again.

Lily spits blood.

Then she looks desperately at the Blackwoods.

“Brother!”

“Father! Mother!”

“I was wrong. I know I was wrong!”

She crawls toward them.

“Please save me one more time.”

Her voice breaks.

“Sera is already dead.”

“I can stay with you.”

“I can take care of you in her place.”

“Do you really want to lose both your daughters?”

For a second, I am stunned by how shameless she is.

Derek looks at her with bloodshot eyes.

“You still dare say that?”

He points at Sera.

“You should die for what you did to her.”

Something vicious flashes across Lily’s face.

Then she snaps.

“Why is this all my fault?”

Her scream cuts through the hall.

“I didn’t send her to the Pit!”

“You did!”

She points at Gavin, Helena, and Derek.

“You’re the ones who believed every word I said.”

“You’re the ones who hated your own daughter.”

“You’re the ones who ordered her into that place!”

The three Blackwoods go still.

Lily laughs through the blood on her lips.

“You had your real daughter right in front of you, and you chose me every single time.”

“Now that you know she had a Royal Commander and the Lycan Queen behind her, suddenly you care?”

“You’re not sorry she suffered.”

“You’re sorry you picked the wrong daughter to bully.”

Derek looks like he wants to tear her apart.

But Helena doesn’t move.

She slowly turns toward me.

Her face is empty.

“You’re the one who raised Sera, aren’t you?”

I stare at her.

Helena’s voice trembles.

“What was she like with you?”

Her eyes fill with tears.

“I’m her biological mother.”

“And in all the months she lived under my roof…”

“I never once tried to know my own daughter.”
