Three Years For His Fiancée Chapter 04
No, that wasn’t the case.
I shouted Julian’s name, wanting to explain, wanting him to tell Anthony and Alexandra that I wasn’t a bad woman.
My hand hit the glass, and I suddenly snapped back to reality.
Things were different now.
The Reegan family would never allow their heir to have a wife of questionable character, nor would they allow Anthony and Alexandra to have a mother who had been to prison.
Back in the cell, it was the same familiar torture.
This time, I didn’t resist. I even found a twisted sense of being alive through the pain.
I was going to leave in a day, after all.
On the third day, I was called to the visiting room again. My steps felt heavy in the hallway.
Didn’t Julian say he wouldn’t come see me again? Why had he changed his mind?
At the corner of the hallway, a sharp female voice suddenly rang out. “Julian, why do you keep coming to the prison every day?”
My whole body trembled.
It was Kimberly!
“Don’t tell me you’ve actually fallen for that country bumpkin!”
Her voice was full of arrogance as she mocked, “If I could have children, do you think I would’ve let Athena give birth to yours?
“Everyone knows the children are meant to inherit both the Reegan and Ashton family businesses.”
I stopped and leaned quietly against the wall, waiting for Julian’s reply.
After a long while, Julian’s tired voice sounded. “Ten years ago, you were the one who chose Athena and made sure she fell in love with me. I just—”
“What about it? You pitied her, then ended up falling in love?
“Julian, did you ever tell Athena that the children she carried for ten months actually belong to us?”
What did Kimberly mean by that?
I froze in place, my mind going blank.
“She’s probably unaware that she was nothing more than a surrogate.
“I didn’t think you’d hide it from her until now.”
So that was what happened!
I clenched my fists until my palms bled.
I couldn’t believe our ten-year relationship—and the children—had all been a lie. Did we even share anything genuine?
“When Athena gets out, I’ll send her abroad. Don’t worry, she won’t ever come back.”
Julian’s calm voice reached my ears, painfully ironic.
“Do you think you can do that? She’s been with you for ten years, after all.”
Unfortunately, I didn’t get to hear his answer.
The guard appeared just in time and took me to the visiting room.
Kimberly sat there in a custom-made dress, a drawn diamond ring on her hand as she brushed her hair back.
Noticing my gaze, she smiled. “Tony is very talented at drawing. He insisted on drawing me a ring, saying I’m his mother, and no one can take that away.”
I said nothing as I stared into space absent-mindedly.
The children weren’t mine—they were Kimberly and Julian’s all along. The truth hit me hard.
I couldn’t help but touch my stomach—two little lives had once been there, yet they had nothing to do with me. How ridiculous.
I started laughing until tears brimmed in my eyes. “Ms. Ashton, are you here to rub it in my face?”
My hatred for Julian and Kimberly reached its peak at that moment.
I hated them for manipulating me so easily.
I hated them for choosing me.
She smirked disdainfully. “You heard our conversation, didn’t you?”
Seeing that I didn’t respond, she continued, “Don’t you find it ironic that I personally set you up with Julian? I thought you were simple and harmless, someone who wouldn’t cause any trouble.
“I didn’t expect you to stay by his side for ten whole years.
“Do you know what Julian told me a few days ago? He said he wanted the kids to call you their godmother.”
Kimberly frowned deeply, as if losing her composure.
I listened to her speak, my face devoid of emotion. She sounded ridiculous.
What was she trying to say? That Julian had fallen in love with me?
“Today, I’m here to make you disappear.”
Kimberly waved her hand, and two men in black appeared behind me.
“You messed around in prison and were brutally killed in retaliation.
“How does that story sound?”
I tried to struggle free, but I couldn’t match the strength of the two men.
After a needle went in, dizziness flooded my mind. I felt myself being carried out of the prison and thrown into an abandoned construction site with no one around.
Someone was digging a pit, and they were trying to get rid of my body.
Suddenly, a pair of bright headlights lit up the dark site.
A black Hummer made a sharp turn and stopped in front of me.
“Athena? Athena!”
Rushed footsteps approached.
“Don’t worry, I’ve already dealt with those people!
“Julian and Kimberly’s cruel deeds will be exposed once you leave the country.”
I looked at the face I hadn’t seen in ten years and closed my eyes in relief.
