You Shipped Me Off I Married Your Boss Chapter 21
“I’ll find time to come visit her.”
“If it’s possible, I can bring her to Chicago.”
“You planning on never coming back to LA?”
Anger edged his voice now.
I looked down. Smiled.
“It’s an option.”
Why not? I was marrying into Chicago. My life would be here.
But Brian didn’t need to know any of that.
“Skylar. Still stubborn. Still childish. You haven’t grown up at all.”
Brian’s voice kept dropping, colder and colder.
“You’d better not regret this, Skylar.”
“Regret what?”
“Natalie and I are engaged. We’re finalizing the wedding date.”
“And?”
“Skylar. Don’t pretend you don’t understand. If I actually marry Natalie, you…”
My laugh came light. Free.
“Brian. I’ll give you both my sincerest blessings. Truly.”
Silence stretched on his end.
I didn’t wait. I ended the call gently.
I was fourteen when I first fell for him.
Seven years of stubborn, hopeless devotion. Refusing to call him brother.
Now, he’d finally returned to his proper place. The place he’d always belonged.
I didn’t hate him. Didn’t resent him.
After so many years together, I meant it. I wished him well.
