You Told Me To Walk So I Walked Right Out Of Your Lives Chapter 11
The car window rolled down, revealing my mother’s face in the back seat.
“Amaris, school’s out? Come on, get in. Your father and I came to take you home.”
I frowned slightly and peered into the car.
Sofia wasn’t there.
My mother smiled. “Honey, we were wrong before. We’ve done a lot of thinking.”
“Sofia always had a driver, while you always had to walk back and forth by yourself.”
“Looking back, we know we didn’t treat you right.”
“We’re changing. Just now, your father and I transferred a hundred thousand dollars to your account. See if that’s enough.”
“Amaris, we truly want to make it up to you.”
“Let’s start with taking you to and from school, all right? From now on, this car is just for you.”
I froze, then lowered my head and opened the banking app on my phone.
An extra hundred thousand dollars was sitting in my account.
My nose stung, and for a second, I almost cried.
For all these years, all I had ever really wanted was a simple apology.
Those words still hadn’t come, but for a moment, I almost believed them.
They looked at me, their eyes full of hopeful expectation.
Thinking that I would be leaving for college soon anyway, I sighed softly and opened the car door.
“All right. I happen to have some news to share with you, too.”
“I’ll tell you when we get home, while we’re celebrating for her.”
My parents’ faces broke into wide smiles.
Only then, I didn’t understand what that smile meant.
