You Told Me To Walk So I Walked Right Out Of Your Lives Chapter 12
The car did not drive home.
When it reached a service road far from the main road, it stopped abruptly.
I froze.
“We’re still far from home.”
The car door was yanked open, and a man in black pulled me out.
When I saw his face, my heart sank.
I couldn’t mistake him.
He was one of the men who had tortured me.
The police had rescued the victims, but some of the kidnappers had gotten away.
My mother looked at me, her eyes red.
“This is all your fault. If you hadn’t refused to come home and celebrate with Sofia, she wouldn’t have run away in anger.”
“And if she hadn’t left, she wouldn’t have fallen into their hands.”
My mouth was gagged. I couldn’t speak.
My father looked anxiously at the men standing across from them.
“I brought her to you. Now you have to give me my daughter back.”
The leader’s voice was muffled.
“Tomorrow. West 45th Street. Same time. Go pick her up.”
My parents were so relieved that tears sprang to their eyes.
“Thank you! Thank you so much!”
I was dragged into a black van.
It was identical to the one they had taken me in before.
Tears streamed down my face.
But my parents drove away without a single look back.
They had sold me.
Behind me, one of the men tied my wrists, cursing under his breath.
“Damn it, you’re the one who led the cops to us. You got lucky last time. Don’t even think about getting away again.”
Another man said, “If you ask me, we should just sell her off to some backwoods town in West Virginia.”
“There’s an old man over there who’s been looking for a young wife.”
“This one’s educated and decent-looking. She should fetch a good price.”
I didn’t struggle like I had last time.
In fact, I had been waiting for this moment for a very long time.
