Godmother To His Son Then I Took His Kingdom Chapter 11

When Graham woke up in the hospital, the preservation notice from Mara’s lawyer was waiting by his bed.

His mother’s voice was a low hiss. “Calm Evelyn down first. Don’t let this family be humiliated again.”

He gripped the document, his knuckles white, his voice rough. “Until I know the truth, I am not divorcing her. No one gets to decide that for me.”

As soon as he was discharged, he drove straight to Evelyn’s house.

“The museum footage, the phone records from around Mara’s parents’ accident—why are they on this list?”

Evelyn went pale, tears instantly welling in her eyes.

“I don’t know… Graham, everything I ever did was because I love you.”

Once, he would have pulled her into his arms. Now, all he felt was a rising tide of disgust.

“We’re done.”

That night, Graham didn’t sleep. Near dawn, on a strange impulse, he drove to a spot outside Evelyn’s house and activated a listening device he’d had installed years ago, a failsafe in case her instability ever spiraled.

Through the speaker, Evelyn’s smug laugh crackled.

“From the guardianship papers to the museum, I was just taking back the life that should have been mine, one step at a time. What made Mara think she had the right to steal everything from me? And Graham—he actually thought I loved him. He’s nothing but a fool.”

The color drained from Graham’s face. His hands shook so violently on the steering wheel he could barely keep his grip.

For eight years, he had been the one played for a fool.

He immediately called his assistant.

“Contact the investigator. I want everything on that list. Everything. And pull all of our home security footage from the last three years.”
