He Called Me A Stone And Chose Her Pearl Chapter 10
My face was still flushed when I left Sophie’s house.
To meet someone once and agree to seriously consider marrying him—the whole thing felt unreal.
Would my parents object?
Would Theo’s family look down on my background?
If he really lived in the south, would I be leaving the capital soon?
Sophie had offered to have a car take me home, but Theo insisted on having his own car follow mine as an escort.
As we neared my house, my phone rang.
It was Theo.
“Everything happened so fast today,” he said. “I didn’t prepare a proper gift, so it wouldn’t be right for me to call on your family just yet.”
“There’s something else I forgot to tell you. I have to leave the capital tomorrow for the border. I may be gone for a month or two.”
“But I will be back. And as soon as I am, I will come to your house and formally ask for your hand.”
We had known each other for half a day, and he was already taking the time to account for his whereabouts.
Through the rear window, I could see the dark shape of his SUV behind us, and the sight of it settled something in me.
“Alright. I’ll wait for you.”
When I got home, I was still wrapped in the warmth of my secret.
It wasn’t until I stepped into the living room that I saw them—my parents and Vanessa, all waiting for me.
My father’s face was a thundercloud. He snatched a teacup from the table and hurled it at me.
It shattered at my feet, splashing scalding tea across my arm. My werewolf skin began to heal almost instantly, but the searing pain still made me flinch.
I had just rolled up my sleeve when Vanessa rushed forward and slapped me hard across the face.
