He Called Me A Stone And Chose Her Pearl Chapter 12
I stared at her, my heart turning to ice.
After a long, tense moment, I said coldly, “I did nothing wrong today. I went to the library to return books. Nolan was the one who mistook me for her.”
“But you’ve never believed anyone but Vanessa, so it doesn’t matter what I say.”
“If you regret giving birth to me, then release me from your financial authority and let me leave the Greenvale Pack’s family registry. I’ll take my chances as a rogue wolf before I beg you for anything.”
My mother’s crying stopped abruptly.
My father’s chest heaved with rage.
“You disgrace us, and now you dare to threaten your own parents?”
I stood my ground, and for the first time in my life, I did not look away.
After a long standoff, Vanessa suddenly spoke in a soft voice. “It’s fine. I don’t blame Laurel.”
“Nolan is an incredible man. It’s only natural for her to like him. But if she keeps pining after my fiancé, she’s going to cause an even bigger problem.”
“We should arrange a match for her as soon as possible.”
Mother seized on the idea.
“The Northcrest Pack has a distant relative, from an ordinary family, who’s currently going through the Royal Council’s administrative selection. Nolan said he’s very strict, which should be perfect for keeping you in line.”
“You love to read, too. You’d be a perfect match.”
Just like that, right in front of me, they decided my life for me. Again.
