By coincidence, on the day my mother entered the Royal Castle, Caleb was there too.
He had just returned from the northern deployment zone, the black uniform on his body still dusted with the grime of travel.
He did not go back to his garrison to rest. Instead, he brought more than a dozen officers who had lived and fought beside him and walked straight into King Cedric’s office.
Later, Caleb told me what had happened that day.
He didn’t ask for a new rank. He didn’t request land, wealth, or a Council seat.
He made only one request.
That King Cedric approve my registration as his chosen mate and allow my transfer from Cedar Valley into the Northwatch Pack’s sphere of protection.
King Cedric sat behind his broad desk, looking at the young commander he had personally promoted.
“Caleb Warren, have you thought this through?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
“Audrey Porter is the biological daughter of a Pack Alpha. She is still on the candidate register for the Crown Prince’s spouse.”
Caleb’s expression did not change.
“I know.”
King Cedric opened the electronic application on his desk and paused.
“Lucian came yesterday as well. He asked the Crown to confirm Audrey as his political spouse.”
“I know.”
“And you still dared to come?”
The office fell silent.
The officers who had accompanied Caleb all knew this was no ordinary marriage dispute. The Crown Prince wanted Cedar Valley’s Council support, and he also held the power to alter the course of their military careers.
But Caleb didn’t back down.
“I did.”
King Cedric was silent for a long time. In the end, he signed the application with the highest authority.
“Approved.”
Caleb raised his hand in a crisp military salute.
His voice was low and steady.

The royal notice approving my marriage to Caleb and the Council notice confirming Lucian’s request for his political engagement arrived in Cedar Valley on the same day.
The first stated that, according to my own wishes, I could transfer into the Northwatch Pack and complete my chosen-mate registration with Caleb.
The second continued the red-card process and required Rosalie and me to enter Lucian’s royal estate on the same day, though only I would hold the official title of wife.
